He was born on June 26, 1929, in Chicago, Ill. When he was a young boy, the family moved to Waupaca, and that is where he was raised and graduated from high school.
After high school he was drafted into the U.S. Air Force where he served for 4 years.
He married Janet M. Marquard on Nov. 5, 1953. After they got married, they decided to venture to Fairbanks, Alaska, where Dave worked as a printer for Jessens Weekly. Later he started a 3rd generation construction company named College Construction.
Dave and Jan lived in Alaska for 27 years, and raised six wonderful children. At age 50, they bought a farm in Athens, where they lived for 20 years. They retired to Woodruff, where they built their dream home on a lake with wonderful neighbors.
David was quite the adventurer, entrepreneur and loving father, grandfather, great- grandfather, & great- great-grandfather.
David is survived by his brother, Robert Hafele, of Baton Rouge, La., Doris Marie of Charlstom, Ore., Paul Hafele of Anchorage, AK. His son David Joseph (Mimi) Hafele of Honolulu, HI, daughter Ann (David) May, Fairbanks, AK, daughter Susan (Shaun) Denning, North Pole, AK, daughter Joan (Christopher) Stepovich, Fairbanks, AK, Grace (Richard) Minder, Fairbanks, AK, eighteen grandchildren: Cory, Kerry, Jennifer, Alisa, Curtis, Jesse, Cherish, Shane, Shannon, Steven, Sarah, Marko, Christopher, Lawrence, David, Sierra, Mariah, and John Thomas. Eighteen great-grandchildren: Brian, Bella, Kayden, Avery, Landon, Jariah, Shelee, Ashley, Haley, Jackson, Kody, Makenzie, Keegan, Kiersten, Sienna, Zemirah, Azarah & Katherine and 2 great-great- grandchildren Ellie & Jarek Erekson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet M. Hafele, daughter and Mary Beth Hafele, Fairbanks, AK.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, at Bolger’s Funeral Home.
A funeral mass for David Isfort Hafele will be held Friday, Dec. 10, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 8950 County Rd. J, Woodruff. The reception will immediately follow the service at the church.
We will proceed to Waupaca for the burial service at Saint Mary Magdalene cemetery.
