Dolores “Dolly” Marie Drewsen
She is survived by her seven children, Ann (Ken Buratti) Lawler, Greg (Sherry) Drewsen, Donna Staples, Laurie (Ronnie Peterson) Drewsen, Larry (Terry O’Connor) Drewsen, Connie (Todd) Schrom, Len (Gordy) Drewsen; her 13 grandchildren, Chris, Mere, Nick, Whitney, Emily, Mitchell, Camryn, Jack, Lucas, Amanda, Jessica, Abby, Michael; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her grandson, Chase Drewsen, and son-in-law, Mark Staples.
She was born December 8, 1923 in Fond du Lac. Dolly married the late Curley Drewsen in 1948. Her life revolved around her family, their friends, and the Minocqua community.
In the 1950’s and 60’s, Dolly was an active part of Curley’s Tavern, the family business. Her wit and wisdom allowed her to write a column for the Lakeland Times about the Minocqua social scene. Although she wore many hats, Dolly was best known for her work at the Lakeland Medical Clinic and General Store in downtown Minocqua.
Dolly loved to travel and had a great sense of adventure. She enjoyed reading and valued education. She was proud that all seven of her children graduated from college. If you ever met Dolly, you were a friend for life. She welcomed everyone into her home, and there was always a seat at the table.
The family would like to thank her caregiver and special friend, Becky Shields, for the loving care and friendship she provided Dolly in her final years.
Visitation will be held at Nimsgern Funeral in Woodruff on Saturday August 21 at 1 p.m. with a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m.
The family requests donations be sent to the Oneida County Humane Society, 1852 N. Stevens St., Rhinelander, WI 54501.
