Sam left people to keep his memory alive. His children, Tori (Jack) Brunold, Traci (Mike) McClintock, Tanya (Greg) Prevatt, Ty (Kathleen) Peterson. His grandchildren, Jennie (Mark) Donohue, Lydia (Jordan) Walker, Matthew (fiancee Anna) Brunold, McKenna (Jordan) Cherry, Jake McClintock, Sam, Max and Alea Prevatt, Bo, Brett and Bella Peterson. Her great grandsons, Ethan and Owen Donohue, Jude, Quinn and Dean Walker. His beloved brothers Floyd (Mari) Peterson, Dan (Kay) Peterson, and sister Dottie (Leon “Kuffy”) Kusserow, as well as brother-in-law Tom Yelton and many nieces and nephews.
Sam joined his parents Maude and CM “Mike” Peterson.
His story started on May 24,1937 in Tomahawk, as the second child of 4. At the age of 13, he met Jennie Lee Birkholz, the love of his life, when they attended confirmation classes at Calvary Lutheran Church. They were married on Dec. 26, 1956 while he was on leave from the Navy. The next day they headed to Norfolk, VA to begin their married life, he was 19, she was 18. They shared 64 years together.
Sam enjoyed splitting his time between his homes in Woodruff and Eustis, Fla. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children when they were little and his grandchildren as they got older. While in Florida he and Mom enjoyed their daily Happy Hour/Coffee Hour with their neighbors, “The Aldrich Street Gang.” He especially enjoyed his time at his hunting shack in Wisconsin with friends and family.
We will remember Dad always whistling a happy tune or telling a witty limerick. We love and miss you!
A Memorial service is planned for July 31, 2021 at Ascension Lutheran Church. Please watch The Lakeland Times and Facebook for more details as the time gets closer.
