Sigurd S. Larson
He was born in Davenport, Iowa to Swen and Gerda Larson. Sigurd was a U.S. Army veteran. He married May-Britt Cecelia (nee Norling) in Rockford, Ill. He graduated from the Purdue University with a civil engineering degree. Upon graduation he went to work for the Standard Oil Company, which then became Amoco. When Amoco became BP, he decided to retire.
Sigurd was a gifted athlete and enjoyed many sports. He enjoyed downhill skiing, cross country skiing, biking, and running. He participated in the Swedish Vasaloppet, American Birkebeiner as well as many other skiing races. As a runner his proudest moment was running the Boston marathon, but also ran many other marathons.
He was on the ski patrol at Minocqua Winter park and a active member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Minocqua.
He is survived by his loving wife May-Britt Larson; two sons, Brian Larson of Tucson, Ariz., and Kurt (Sherri) Larson of South Elgin, Ill. Five grandchildren, Rachel, Kelly, Sabrina, Erik, and Brett and one great-grandchild Hunter and a sister Karin (Roy) Ylitolo.
A memorial Service for Sigurd will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020 at 1 p.m.; Ascension Lutheran Church in Minocqua.
Memorial are suggested to Ascension Lutheran Church in Minocqua or the American Diabetes Assoc.
