John (Jack) Wenzlick

John Joseph (Jack) Wenzlick, 86, formerly of Lac du Flambeau, passed peacefully onto eternal life Nov. 16, 2020. Since 2019, he had been a resident at Country Terrace Assisted Living in Minocqua. “Jack” was born, Dec. 2, 1933 in Merrill to John and Anastasia (Ament) Wenzlick. He was a modest and humble individual of deep faith, and was highly respected for his integrity. Jack married his devoted and loving wife, Virginia (Ginger), Sept. 8, 1956. She preceded him in death, Feb. 25, 2011. Jack was a propane/natural gas service technician the majority of his life, retiring from Great Plains Gas and then owning/operating “Jack’s Lakeland Gas Service.” As well, the family also owned/operated Forest View Resort/Cottages. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Lac du Flambeau for more than 60 years, and former member of the church Men’s Club. Those who will remember Jack knew his passion was time spent in the outdoors, always seeking new adventures. He was an active hunter, trapper, and fisherman, making innumerable trips to his favorite destinations of Canada (on moose hunts and fishing excursions), Minnesota, and Florida, as well as other locations. Spending time with his family, especially his grandsons, was one of Jack’s greatest joys. He was a gifted story teller with a fabulous sense of humor. We will miss his laugh, as well as the twinkle in his eyes. Jack was predeceased by his best friend and partner, Ginger, as well as his only child and son, Larry, in 2008. He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Jo Ann (Bowman), of Minocqua, and grandsons, Matthew (Julianne) of Mound, Minn., and David of Minocqua, and by his recent and most adored family member, great-granddaughter, Dani. We love and miss you “Grandpa Jack.” Thanks for the memories.
The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to all friends, neighbors, customers, caregivers, and acquaintances of Jack’s, as well as the staff at Country Terrace and Ascension-Howard Young Medical Center for the kindness, support, friendship, and care which has been extended to the entire Wenzlick family, currently and through past years. May God bless each of you.
Per Jack’s wishes cremation has taken place. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a memorial service will be held in spring 2021.
