On Saturday, March 20, 2021, Clinton Randall Cox (Randy), loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away at the age of 84.
Randy was born in February 1937, in Waldron, Ind., to Frank and Martha (Roberts) Cox. He married Marilyn Ann Ray on Aug. 26, 1956. They were married for almost 65 years, raising two daughters, Cathy and Jacqui, and one son, David.
Randy attended Waldron High School where he played basketball and fastpitch softball. He still holds the record for the most fastpitch games played at the high school. Randy graduated from Franklin College with a bachelor’s degree in education and from Indiana University with a master’s in education. He taught science, physical education, and driver’s education, as well as coached basketball for 10 years in Indiana, before relocating to St. Germain. He and Marilyn owned and operated the Cox’s Estrold Resort for 35 years. His favorite side jobs were playing Santa Claus at the Eagle River Gambles store and working as a letter carrier for the Postal Service. His kids loved riding along with him to put letters in mailboxes.
He was active in the community coaching Little League, serving on the ERRA Board, Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club as a charter member and board member, Lions Club, Little St. Germain Lake Association, M&I Bank Board and the Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed Canadian fishing trips with his buddies, decorating his walls with fish from his many Canada and Wisconsin adventures. At retirement, he and his bride traveled to all corners of the United States visiting friends and landmarks in their RV. They loved Alaska, where he famously locked the truck keys in the camper many hours from civilization. They fell in love with Tucson, Arizona, and visited often, making wonderful friends from all over the country.
Randy’s pride and joy were his nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He spent hours reading stories, playing horsey, baiting hooks, watching sporting events, shoveling the ice rink, golfing and mini-golfing, doing puzzles, enjoying sunsets, sneaking candy, and face-timing grandchildren. He and Marilyn made time to take each grandchild on their own travel adventure.
Randy is survived by his wife Marilyn, children Cathy Newton (Pete), Jacqui Monge (Todd), and David Cox (Jen). He is also survived by his nine grandchildren Nick Siergiej (Dawn), Michael Siergiej (Jinelle), Matthew Newton (Brittany), Marcus Newton, Carson Cox (Estie), Connor Cox, Jocelyn Monge, Cooper Cox, Camryn Cox and great grandchildren, Colden and Rory Siergiej. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Martha Cox.
Memorials can be sent to the family and will be used to start the Cox Family Scholarship at Northland Pines High School.
The family will hold a private burial. A celebration of Randy’s life for friends and family is planned at the St. Germain Evangelical Free Church during the summer of 2021.
Online condolences may be shared at www.nimsgernfuneral.com. Nimsgern Funeral & Cremation Services is serving the family.
