Alice Jane Billings
Alice Jane (Breclaw) Billings passed away on Oct. 26, 2020, in Eau Claire, at the age of 83. Her eldest son and his wife, Jack and Bridget Billings, were at her side when she died. She is missed by her children, Tom Billings, Robert Billings and his wife Roxanne Scheri, and her “adopted” son Matthew Downs and his wife Christine. Her memory is held dear by her grandkids, Emily Billings and her husband Stephan Lalka, Alexandra Billings and her husband Alex Neitzke, Madeline Billings, Michael Downs, and Cate Downs. And her goldendoodle, Maizie. Alice’s (a.k.a., Busha’s) legacy continues through Josephine Billings Lalka, her spunky great-granddaughter.
Alice was born to Minnie and Jacob Breclaw on Nov. 17, 1936, and grew up in East Chicago, Ind., with her older sister Marilyn. She fell in love with Robert John Billings at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. They were married 54 years. She was a talented artist, and the beauty she created in her work will never die. Tales of her chattiness and sassiness will live on in our stories. If she teased you, she liked you. At 80 years old, she dove to catch the bouquet (successfully) at her granddaughter’s wedding.
Alice will be honored during a special Mass of Remembrance at Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020, at 1 p.m. Central Time. Celebrate her spirit with a memorial gift to Holy Family Catholic Church or a rowdy “na zdrowie!” Online condolences may be expressed at Cremation Society of Wisconsin, Altoona. A celebration of Alice’s life will be held at a later date.
