Boulder Junction

Community Foundation

The Boulder Junction Community Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to preserve and enhance Boulder Junction for present and future generations.

The Boulder Junction Community Foundation is an incorporated local charity dedicated to helping people and local organizations carry out their charitable wishes for the Boulder Junction community. Through our partner, the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin, the foundation is also able to offer donors a variety of safe, simple, and effective giving and fund options to accommodate a donor's unique financial circumstances, charitable goals, and tax and estate planning objectives. Donors are able to give cash, checks, stocks, real estate, and other assets to the Foundation or create a fund to support a charitable purpose of their own choosing. In addition, the foundation can act as a conduit for handling short-term fundraising campaigns for a specific community project.

As a foundation we are focused on building the Endowment Fund, so we can play an important role in preserving our traditions, enhancing our town and providing exciting new opportunities for Boulder Junction for years to come. To make this goal a reality, up to 5 percent of the Endowment Fund is distributed in grants each year to provide enhancements the community would not be able to afford: programs, events, parks, buildings, equipment, signs, trails and other unique opportunities. In 2017, a total of $7,250 was awarded in grants for our community: $450 to the Boulder Junction Public Library Children's Summer Reading Program, $4,400 to purchase bicycle fixtations along the Heart of Vilas Bike Trail, $1,500 towards the cost of building a new stage for Music on Main Street, $400 to offset the costs of the artists performing at Music on Main Street and $500 for entertainment activities at the Boulder Junction Volunteer Fire Department's Chicken annual BBQ.

Donations to the Boulder Junction Community Foundation can be designated to any of the following funds: Endowment Fund, Enhancement Funds (Bike Trails or Arts & Culture, Greatest Needs/Operations) or joining the Founders or the "Legacy Circle. The "Founders Circle" and "Legacy Circle" have been created to recognize the generosity of donors who believe in the Foundation's mission, share its ideals, and make a significant financial commitment to the Boulder Junction Community Foundation.

There are several ways in which you can give including check or cash, online using PayPal, or even through your purchases with "Amazon Smile," (no cost to you to support us! Log on to: smile.amazon.com - then select Boulder Junction Community Foundation).

Girls on the Run of the Northwoods

At Girls on the Run, we are passionate about all girls developing key life skills - confidence, caring, connection, character, competence, contribution - in order to live joyful lives of meaning and purpose. Girls on the Run is a transformational learning program for girls, ages 8 to 11 years old. Supported by GOTR staff, well-trained volunteer coaches teach life skills through dynamic, conversation-based lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. The after-school program comprehensively prepares young girls for those tough adolescent years and reviews sound life lessons for those high-school students who volunteer as junior coaches.

Not only do the girls gain confidence by training for and completing a 5K, but they also are empowered with the decision on how they will impact their community. Past impact projects include donating to Juvenile Diabetes by raising funds with a car wash; bridging the generation gap in Lac du Flambeau through letters to the elders; organizing a "stuffed animal drive" and donating them to the Lakeland Pantry.

The organization continues to look for dedicated volunteers and sponsors. Further information can be found by visiting the website, www.gotrnorthwoods.org, or emailing executive director Jill Nicolson at [email protected].
