DECA's bowl-a-thon raises over $3,000 for the Friends of the T-Bird Bridge
DECA is a marketing youth organization which allows students to gain career awareness, social competence, leadership skills and civic consciousness.
"LUHS DECA participates in several civic events annually. One of DECA's goals is to educate and motivate students on the importance of improving the community and society in which they live," said DECA advisor Shawn Umland. "Another great year was made possible by the support of parents, community, business people and LUHS administration."
DECA member Mallory Ellis knows that making a community stronger benefits everyone.
"I believe community service is of the utmost importance to every society, and it is clear that DECA shares this belief; this is why our chapter is involved in so many community service activities annually," she said. "Every single event that DECA sponsors or runs is impacted by the students and advisors in great ways, and I do not see this changing anytime soon."
Forty-nine students participated in raising funds for the cause. The top pledge-getters included Brittany Spleha, Kristian Kigen and Tyler Sauvola.
DECA is appreciative to the following business for their participation and donations to the bowling and door prizes: Island City Lanes, Arby's of Minocqua, Burger King, Hub & Scrub Car Wash, Minocqua Pizza Company, Sunset Tanning, Culver's of Minocqua, Subway, Bob Metropulos and the Friends of the T-Bird Bridge.
