LAKE TOMAHAWK - The rain didn't scare off snowshoe baseball participants on Monday as the Snowhawks hosted Lizzy T's in one of the final games of the season.

It was a relaxed affair that saw Lake Tomahawk jump out to a big lead. Some mid-game hijinks made it close late before a big eighth inning propelled the Snowhawks to an 18-11 win.

"I think the pressure was off a little bit," Lake Tomahawk manager Jeff Smith said. "It was more of a fun game and sometimes when you have a fun game people hit like crazy. When I saw the lineup I knew it was going to be a game of fun."

Lake Tomahawk scored five runs apiece in the first two innings to jump out to a 10-1 lead.

In the first inning, the Snowhawks got runs from Smith, Derek Young, Ryan Schowalter, Donnie Moore and Cole Punches on six consecutive hits. In the second, runs were scored by Brent Cella, Jesse Robinson, Nick Mercks, Eric Hilmer and Billy Kuckkahn.

Logan Ice hit a home run in the fourth for Lizzy T's, but Punches hit one of his own in the fifth to make the score 13-2.

At that point, both teams start to have some fun. The Snowhawks took turns batting left-handed for an inning, while Lizzy T's owner Liz Taylor intercepted several would-be outs to allow her team to get a few runs.

Runs by Michelle Lau, Greg Bish, Taylor, Amy Monday, Mike Roach and Dee Roberts cut the score to 14-11 in the eighth, but Lake Tomahawk extended its lead in the bottom half of the inning.

Robinson launched a grand slam that landed on top of a building in left field to push the lead back to seven runs.

"We weren't keeping track," Smith said. "It allows us to hit from the opposite side and do something a little bit different. That's why I line these games up at the end of the year. We keep the stiff competition in the middle and put a couple easy games at the end."

Lizzy T's squad featured a special guest in Todd Reed, a veteran amputee that plays for the Louisville Slugger Warriors in North Carolina.

Taylor raised the money to fly Reed in for the game, and while it wasn't as competitive as the games he usually plays, he was thrilled with the experience.

"This was so much fun," Reed said. "I came here last year and to come back here again - it's such an honor to get invited to come play in this."

Lake Tomahawk (8-3) wraps up the season on Monday with a game against Shamrock Pub at 7:30 p.m.
