Traffic on the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 51 through downtown Minocqua was diverted Saturday night as firefighters from Minocqua, Woodruff, Hazelhurst, Arbor Vitae, Lac du Flambeau, Eagle River, St. Germain, Lake Tomahawk, Pine Lake, Nokomis and Little Rice responded to a structure fire at 302 Oneida Street (southbound Hwy. 51). Occupants in apartments upstairs were evacuated, although Minocqua fire chief Luke Taylor confirmed Sunday one person was removed by Minocqua police before fire department personnel arrived and was, to his knowledge, transported to a hospital outside the area for burn treatment. Taylor said the fire did spread into the attic area of the Coach House Apartments but did not get into any of the apartments, although there is water damage as a result of firefighting efforts. The scene was cleared and Hwy. 51 reopened just before 2 a.m. Sunday. For more on the story, see the Friday, Jan. 27 edition of The Lakeland Times.
