Roger Brian Nordrum Sr. passed away on January 23, 2023, at UW Health in Madison.
Roger is survived by his son Roger Nordrum (Simone); daughter Rebecca Batka (Chris); daughter Ann Bloom (Angela); his brother Les Nordrum (Melissa), brother Harlan Nordrum; five grandchildren, Holly (Jake), Cody, Drew, Dejay, and Tianna; as well as five great-grandchildren, Brooks, Wesley, Crew, Jett and Cooper.
He is preceded in death by his father Rueben Nordrum, stepmother Barbra Nordrum, sister Diana Nordrum, and friend and mother of his three children Debra Friend.
Roger was an involved and active father with all of his children throughout life and took great pride in his role as a grandfather and great grandfather — never failing to remember a birthday or missing an opportunity to cheer on and support his grandkids at all that they do.
Roger was born November 12, 1952 in Virocqua, later moving on to attend college at the University of Madison before eventually settling down in his forever home town of Minocqua.
Roger worked at Dave Marston Motors for decades, and continued to enjoy making drives for dealer trades long after he “retired.” He loved to boast of his pride for his Norwegian heritage to those who knew him. He was a creature of habit and loved his morning routine of gas station coffee and then down the road to Al and Yvonne’s for a morning visit. He loved working at the farm, always with a smile on his face — even if he got the bouncy tractor. He found joy in fishing with his grandkids and sharing stories with them. He was kind, thoughtful, and loved beyond measure. Most of all Roger loved people — the bench outside his apartment was prime real estate for sitting and seeing the people and exchanging waves with the passersby.
A celebration of life will be held Feb. 5, from 11 a.m to 2 p.m. at Hazelhurst Town Hall.
In lieu of flowers, cards can be sent to 7993 Hwy. 51 south, Minocqua, WI 54548.
