Phillip M. Strand, 85, passed away peacefully at his home, on November 14, 2021. Born on October 12, 1936 in Rockford, Ill., a son of Martin and Marion (Lawler) Strand. Phil graduated high school in 1954 and enlisted in the Army in 1955. While enlisted, he played cornet in the 10th Division Army Band in Germany. In 1958, Phil returned to Rockford, where he reconnected with and eventually married his lifelong love, Nancy Norsen. 
Through the years, Phil graduated from Rockford College, welcomed his daughter and son and in 1976, their family moved to Minocqua. He spent his early career working in advertising and sales, including as the advertising manager at the Lakeland Times. He was a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church. He called Peru, Ind. home from 1993 to 2006 where he worked for and retired as a Financial Advisor from Edward Jones. In 2006, they returned to Minocqua.
Phil was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and bompa who enjoyed many lifelong passions including reading, woodcarving, golfing, cooking, watching his favorite Chicago sports teams, volunteering his time to many organizations, most recently Rotary and with Ascension Lutheran Church. Phil had a love for travel and was able to visit 50 states and over 20 different countries with his family.
He will be fondly remembered by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Strand of Rhinelander; daughter, Cindy (Scott) Stuewe of Geneva, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Candy Strand of Rhinelander; grandchildren Michael and Peter Stuewe of Illinois, Lauren (David) Sackett and Jordan Strand of Rhinelander; three great-grandsons Sawyer, Hunter and Charlie Sackett of Rhinelander; sister Karen (Jack) Erickson of Rockford, Ill.; brother-in-law Jim (Marcia) Norsen of Hazelhurst; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, close family and friends. Phil was preceded in death by his parents Martin & Marion Strand, brother Paul Strand and his son Daniel Strand.
In lieu of flowers, Phil’s family hopes you consider a memorial donation in his name to Lakeland Pantry or Ascension Lutheran Church.
Visitation for Phil will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., with memorial services following at the Ascension Lutheran Church in Minocqua. Reverend Richard Likeness will officiate.
