Now is the time to prune apple trees

Proper pruning ensures healthy trees, bountiful harvest

Last week, the University Extension horticulture put on a webinar regarding pruning apple trees. Winter is the best time to prune those trees to avoid many disease and pest issues. Trees limbs without leaves are also lighter, and it is easier to discern the shape of the tree and where there may be problem areas in the winter. Training and pruning fruit trees such as apple trees is essential to help maintain not only a high-quality harvest of fruit, but also to ensure the longevity of the trees as well.
