Bats are important parts of the ecosystems in which they are found. They provide many valuable services. One of those is pest control. A University of Wisconsin study found bats living in bat houses were consuming far more mosquitoes than previously thought. They were eating 15 different species of mosquitoes, nine of which carry West Nile virus. Just one little brown bat can consume 1,000 mosquitoes per hour.
