To the Editor:
The Sayner-Star Lake Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the cooperative efforts of Boulder Junction and St. Germain in creating the Heart of Vilas County Bike and Hike Trail System. Boulder Junction pioneered the Vilas County Bike Trail in 1993. At that time, they connected the Boulder Junction Trail with the state campgrounds of Trout, Firefly, and Crystal-Muskie lakes. The Plum Lake Bicycle Trail originating at Crystal Lake campground and ending in Sayner opened in 2005. This project was facilitated by Jeff Long's knowledge and experience with state and federal grant writing and trail construction. His work on the Boulder Junction Trail provided information that helped make the Plum Lake Trail become a reality. This cooperative effort between the three communities of Boulder Junction, Say-ner and St. Germain resulted in a trail system that benefits not only the residents of the area but visitors as well. Please join us to celebrate this remarkable effort at the official opening of the Heart of Vilas County Bike and Hike Trail System, Sunday, June 3, at the Crystal Lake shelter house from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
