Dr. William C. Miller passed away on Oct. 25, 2018 after 99 3/4 years of an active and full life. He was born in Portland, Colo., on Nov. 24, 1918, the son of Frank S. and Rosina (Reisinger) Miller. His youth was spent on the desert plains surrounding Pueblo, Colo., collecting arrowheads, camping under the starry skies, and enjoying mischief and adventure with his brothers.

He married Lorraine Anne Bliese on Jan. 5, 1945 at Jesu Church, Milwaukee. They eventually settled in Wausau raising five children and enjoying family retreats in Minocqua and Captiva, Fla.

He completed undergraduate studies in science at St. Mary’s College, Oakland, Calif., and completed a Doctorate of Medicine at Marquette University, Milwaukee. He joined the U.S. Army Medical Corp during World War II and served in the Asian/Pacific Front. He was stationed at Gorgas Hospital in the Panama Canal Zone 1943-1944; and at the U.S. Army Tripler General Hospital, Oahu, Hawaii as chief of dermatology, 1944-1946. During his spare time in Hawaii he volunteered dermatology service to those suffering from “Hansen’s Disease” at the Colony on Molakai’s Kaluappa Peninsula. Back on the mainland he completed his dermatology training at Northwestern University, the University of Chicago, UW-Madison and at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Following his training he practiced dermatology and allergy in Wausau for nearly 50 years. After “retirement” to Madison, he joined the Associated Physicians and enjoyed the camaraderie with his colleagues and the entire staff.
