Jim Gierl, 80, of Minocqua and Ft. Myers, Fla., passed away Dec. 17, 2018 in Ft. Myers.

He was born in Athens, Wisc., on April 1, 1938 to Floyd and Angeline Gierl. Jim built and remodeled homes and apartments in Wausau; Cape Coral, Fla.; N. Ft. Myers; and Minocqua, teaching the trade to many along the way. He loved his work and life in general.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Delphine (Reiche) Gierl, two children: Doug Gierl (Sandie) of Harshaw, and Denise (Mark) Masiakowski of Minocqua; four grandchildren: Mariah (Jeremy) Klade of Merrill, Hailey (Sam) Aromov of Brooklyn, N.Y., Trevor (Amy) Rodman of Lake Tomahawk, and Marshall Masiakowski of Minocqua; and six great-grandchildren: Brantley, Rayna and Abigail Klade, Elenya Aromov, and Joseph and Issac Rodman; two sisters: Bette (Albert) Kunze of Wausau, and Marian (Pete) Schemenhauer of Athens, and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jocile Marie, and sisters Donna Zettler Krall and Arlene Gierl.

He will be missed by those who knew him as a good, gentle and pleasant man.

National Cremation is in charge of arrangements. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Jan. 7, 2019 at 11 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church in N. Ft. Myers, Fla. A celebration of life will take place next summer in Wisconsin.
