Jean D. Olthoff, age 87 of Minocqua, died on Saturday, Dec. 29 at Avanti Health and Rehab in Minocqua, with her family by her side. Jean was born on Oct. 9, 1931 in Braham, Minn., the daughter of Theodore and Elvera (nee Westin) Mart. Jean married Lester Olthoff on June 30, 1951.

For over 20 years Jean did private cleaning for several families in the Lakeland area, and then worked at HYMC in the laundry department until her retirement.

Jean was an avid Bingo player, she loved and enjoyed her outings once, twice a week (depending if they won) with her special friend Muriel Roper. Jean also loved to play cards. Not one family gathering went without the cribbage board having to come out; “Buck a game” or “Penny a point.” Homemade soups, cheese bread and her “secret beer batter” were her specialties. As when Jean whipped up a batch of something she made them in quantities to share with family and friends. Our mother will be greatly missed!

She is survived by her children: Sharen Olthoff of Moose Lake, Minn.; Karen (Mike Ecklund) Olthoff, Pam (Clary) Jordens both of Woodruff; Danny Olthoff of Maryville, Tenn.; Duane (Charlene) Olthoff of Kiel, Wisc., and by 10 grandchildren: Matthew (Tesa Renteria) Jordens, Jeremy (Rick) Schmidt, Steven (Kristi) Richardson, Lindsay (Dale) Michaelson, Shawn Olthoff, Christopher (Nikki) Olthoff, Ashley (Brandon) Merrick, Michael (Trista Placek) Ecklund, Kayla (James) Westphal and Alesha (Jordan Schauz) Olthoff and by six great-grandchildren: Braxton and Brinley Zachek, Parker Ecklund, Brady and Adaline Michaelson and Banner Merrick and further survived by her siblings: James (Mary) Mart of Duluth, and Elma Knickerbocker of Cloquet, Minn., and by many nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Olthoff in 1982; infant daughter, Peggy Lynn Olthoff and son, Gregory Allen Olthoff and by sisters: Anna Shykes and Violet Ojaneon and brother, Roger Mart.

Celebration of Jeans life will be held in the spring with inurnment in Duluth.
