Harold Zier passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on All Saint’s Day, Nov. 1, 2018. He was born Jan. 29, 1926 in Laurel, Mont. After graduation from high school, he worked on the railroad in Laurel until he was drafted into the Navy Seabees during World War II. After the war, he attended college at Valparaiso University where he met his future bride, Grenith. He and his wife settled in Kewanee, Ill., where he was assistant principal at Central Junior High School until retiring to the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin. They enjoyed an active life together for 65 years, often traveling to various parts of the world. He was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church where he sang in the church choir. He was often described as their unofficial greeter, welcoming all who entered the door. He enjoyed playing cards — cribbage, Sheephead and bridge. He loved his family and was always happiest when everyone was together, especially when eating pork and sauerkraut. He is survived by his wife, Grenith Zier; children Tim Zier, Judy Zier and Kendra (Ben) Adamowski; grandchildren Tim, Jennifer, Shannon, Kevin, Sydney, Morgan, and Andy. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Arbor Vitae, with a gathering time one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church, Seasons of Life Hospice, or the Lakeland Retirement Foundation.
