Surrounded by his family, Glenn C. Ripley, 79, of Manitowish Waters, passed away on Dec. 30, 2018 at Avanti Health and Rehabilitation Center in Minocqua. Dad was born at home, on Feb. 13, 1939, to Clarence and Ione Ripley. He was raised on the family farm in Grand Marsh, Wisc., and graduated from Adams-Friendship High School in 1958. Upon graduation, Dad enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving for eight years. On June 28, 1963, he was united in marriage to Agnes DeWitte at the Methodist Chapel in Madison.

For several years, Glenn worked for the Milwaukee Road Railroad as a fireman, a job he truly enjoyed. In 1972, he earned an associate degree in Auto Body from Madison Area Technical College. For most of his adult life, Dad worked for the Oscar Mayer Company in Madison. After retirement, Dad and Mom fulfilled their long-term dream of moving to the Northwoods by building a home in Manitowish Waters.

Dad was an avid Packer and Brewers fan, loved fishing, and the outdoors. He also loved collecting and restoring old cars and attending car shows with his son, Dan. One of the thrills for Dad toward the end of his life was being asked to participate in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

Glenn is survived by his wife Agnes, a daughter, Becky (Dave) Shefchik, a son, Dan Ripley; two grandchildren, Elisabeth (Mike) Abraham and Cody Oasen; a great-grandson, Alex Abraham; and three sisters, Myrna Kapke, Gail Preston, and Connie Dammann. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Deon.

A memorial service celebrating Dad’s life will be held on Friday Jan. 4, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Manitowish Waters Community Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to be given to the family to be used accordingly. We also want to thank all who provided tender loving care to Dad.
