Boulder Junction is happy to be the home of the Heart of Vilas County Paved Bike Trail System. The first asphalt, a small loop around the Boulder Junction baseball park was laid in 1994 and by 2000 stretched to Crystal Lake Campground.

In its 25th year, the trail now spans well over 50 miles connecting five Northwoods communities — Boulder Junction, Manitowish Waters, Sayner/Star Lake, St. Germain and newest addition, Mercer. The paved trail allows riders to travel from community to community safely.

In celebration of the 25-year milestone, the Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce is holding a recognition ceremony and cookout on Saturday, June 15 at the wayside at the intersection of Hwy. H and Hwy. K, along the bike trail, just 2.5 miles west of Boulder Junction and 10 miles east of Manitowish Waters. The public is invited to join anytime from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a complimentary brat fry and slice of cake. The ceremony will take place promptly at 11:30 a.m. with dignitaries speaking.

The North Creek Trail Loop Committee will be on site to answer questions about the proposed trail along Hwy. H to North Creek Road and will be accepting donations towards the expansion. Bicycle parking is available at the wayside while vehicle parking is recommended along Nichols Beach Road.

John Denver Tribute concert

Later that evening, come downtown for a John Denver Tribute Concert featuring Roy Rivers. This show is being held as a benefit concert for the proposed bike trail expansion along Hwy. H to North Creek Rd. Although there is no charge to enter, donations in any amount are gladly accepted by the North Creek Bike Trail Loop Committee. This special event is presented by Boulder Bear Motor Lodge in conjunction with the Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce from 7 to 9 p.m. in the grassy lot next to Peeplelures. The American Legion Post 451 will be serving beverages. Bring a chair or blanket and continue the 25th Anniversary Celebration with the music of John Denver performed by Roy Rivers.
