MOSINEE?— The Lakeland Union High School soccer team came out strong Tuesday night in Mosinee, controlling the ball for most of the first half, but were unable to find the back of the net, falling to the Indians 3-0 at Edgewood Park.
“Unfortunately soccer is not just possession,” Lakeland coach Julian Beltran said afterward. “You know, we just need to score.”
The T-Birds were unable to do that Tuesday, failing to take advantage of their opportunities with ball. Mosinee finally got the ball in Lakeland territory near halftime and then Ryan Walsh scorched a shot from deep left of the cage and hit net.
That was all Mosinee needed to take control as it dominated second half possession and scored twice more.
Lakeland wasn’t able to put much pressure on the Indians either as they only had five shots on goal to Mosinee’s 15.
Tuesday was Civil Service night in Mosinee, where local veterans, police officers, firemen, and first responders were honored with a 9/11 ceremony after the game.
The loss dropped Lakeland to fifth in the Great Northern Conference standings (3-4-1, 3-0-1 GNC).
Next up for the T-Birds is hosting the Lakeland Quadrangular at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
