Personnel from 20 different fire departments — including some from Michigan’s upper peninsula — responded early Sunday morning to a blaze that destroyed a popular Boulder Junction bar and grill.

According to a press release from the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office, the dispatch center received a report at around 1:40 a.m. a power pole at Gooch’s A-One Bar & Grill had been struck by a vehicle and the vehicle was on fire.

Emergency responders arriving at the scene observed the vehicle fully engulfed and the fire had spread into the structure.

The building is a total loss and the driver taken into custody, as alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. Gooch’s was closed at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported.

In addition to departments from several Vilas and Oneida County cities and towns, there were personnel from two Michigan fire departments in Bessemer and Sherman which responded to the fire.
