  • Science on Tap look at animals ‘From Beaver to Bear’
    Recently Department of Natural Resources wildlife research team leader Dave McFarland gave a Science on Tap presentation entitled, “From Beaver to Bear — Wisconsin DNR’s Wildlife Research Program in the Northwoods. He spoke about a variety of research programs the DNR is currently undertaking and the strength of having an organization the size of the DNR to complete those projects. (subscriber access)
  • Fourteen Wisconsin schools have been awarded grants to establish habitat for imperiled insect pollinators and monarch butterflies. Locally, the Northland Pines-SOAR Charter High School in Eagle River, was a recipient.

2020 Photography Contest entries now being accepted
    Help wildlife in need by sharing photos for the Northwoods Wildlife Center’s 2020 Photography Contest, now accepting entries. Submit photos in six categories: North American Wildlife, Naturescapes, Bugs and Blooms, Pets, Youth Photographers (ages 17 and under), and, new this year, People in Nature. 
  • Making the nice list
    Minocqua Detective Sergeant Matt Tate and K-9 Officer Jennings visit Santa at the All Creatures Vet Clinic in Minocqua Dec. 14. All proceeds from the event, which invited the public to bring their furry friends to get a photo with Santa, will go to the Minocqua Police Dept K-9 Program.

     
  • The 8th annual Pictures with Santa Event for kids and pets is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, at All Creatures Veterinary Clinic in Minocqua.
  • The Oneida County Humane Society is asking for donations of favorite homemade holiday goodies and baked goods to help the pets at the OCHS-Adoption Center. Donations of goodies will be accepted at the Adoption Center, 1852 N. Stevens Street in Rhinelander until 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22.  
  • Come to the Oneida County Humane Society in Rhinelander at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 for a Scavenger Hunt and burger dinner to benefit the animals.
