“Bum Wing,” written by Minocqua author D.S. Sully, will be featured by the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) at its’ 2019 Midwest Regional Conference, held from May 3-5, in Naperville, Ill. The book has also been recently converted to a screenplay.

Based on the theme of adapting to challenges and being distinguished for doing so, “Bum Wing” is the whimsical tale of a banged up owl, who becomes mentor to both a struggling kid named Vandy and a cast of quirky characters. Bearing the name Sage, this wise old owl instills the belief that in other words and other ways, it is absolutely OK to be otherwise.

“Bum Wing” was written to teach kids about kinship, curiosity, and dealing with daunting situations. Through the “Give a Hoot Project,” donations of this book are made available to schools, libraries, children’s hospitals, zoos, wildlife centers, and family events. This children’s book is available locally at the Northwoods Wildlife Center, where all proceeds from sales go toward funding the rehabilitation of area critters.
